Most outdoor kitchens go into homes that weren’t necessarily built with an outdoor kitchen in mind. Even with interior kitchen spaces that were intended to fit kitchen cabinetry, some level of customization is usually required. For outdoor living spaces, the requirement is even greater. We often have to change the heights of cabinets to fit below window sills. Sometimes depths need to be modified as well. In many cases, a home owner has a specific item that they would like to store outside, so an outdoor cabinet has to be created for that single item.

As a general statement, modifications of the height, width or depth of an existing cabinet are not expensive. If an entire new structure has to be engineered, the cost will naturally be higher. Please keep in mind that the proper way to fit an irregular space is often to include a filler piece that is intended to be trimmed to fit on site. For instance, if you have a 52 inch opening between two walls, you would not order two 26 inch cabinets. You would order two standard 24 inch cabinets, plus two 3 inch fillers. The fillers would be trimmed on site to match the exact shape of the wall. You’ll have a more professional looking installation that costs less money than ordering custom outdoor cabinetry.
